Ithaca Flower Power

Back Camera

Another tag team review from the Solar/Storer team.

I’m not a hop head like some of the group, but this beer is pretty awesome.  Jim poured a 12oz bottle between the rest of us.  It’s a nice golden color but fairly murky.  The color combined with the thin lacing doesn’t make the best looking beer in my opinion (if you can see light through it, it’s not dark enough).  Then you smell it.  (“Just when I think you can’t do anything dumber, you go ahead and do something like this…. and COMPLETELY redeem yourself”)  The smell of this beer is just wonderful.  Citrus, pine, apricot, and enough hops to satisfy Sam Calagione and give a trademark smirk.  The beer is very well balanced between the sweetness of the citrus and the bitterness of the hops.  I’m a fan, and this beer might even give the Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA a run for the money.

I love this beer. Psyched to give Matt his first taste. The nose for me, as strange as it sounds, is hockey locker room (in the very best way). It stinks. Sure there’s pine and citrus in there too, but the hockey locker room… look for it. The taste is sweet grapefruit with a bit of honey and a nice subtle malt backbone. Slight metallic finish, but you get that with a hop bomb like this. Did I mention I love this beer?

  1. Interesting to hear the comparison between the sculpin and the flower power, It’s certainly on my to try list now. I lean towards the fruity, over fragrant west coast style in my preferences I think, so this should be something I enjoy. Have you guys found any other locals (or locally available), besides 90m, and sculpin that have this type of smell, flavor profile? Keep up the good work.AO
