I’ve been on a bit of a cider kick this winter, partially due to some beer-allergy experimentation and partially because I’ve realized there are some good ones out there. Admittedly, I’ve only sampled a handful of ciders over the past couple months but I’m starting to have enough data points to make some comparisons. I picked up the Farmhouse Cider from the Craft Beer Cellar in Belmont, MA. It’s a local option that sounded nice so I was pretty eager to try it.
It poured like champagne – very carbonated, light, and crisp. It smelled sweeter than I would have expected, too. The taste was good but I didn’t find it a relaxing drink. We were looking for something light and refreshing and this seemed like it would be better served with a pre-dinner cheese platter. Certainly a great cider but for a better beer alternative I like Sam Smith’s Organic Cider
better – it has more body and a deeper flavor. Overall: Recommend buy but the lighter flavor would make be pay more attention to what I pair it with.
